About Diane

Leading Florence Forward

mayorMayor Diane Whalen has what it takes to continue leading the City of Florence well into the next decade.  As a life-long resident of Florence, Diane’s heart and soul are literally in the City.

Under her leadership, Florence has grown from a suburban bedroom community, to a thriving, growing economic center.  Diane is proud of the fact that citizens can live and work in the City and can enjoy all the amenities of peaceful neighborhoods.

Fiscally Responsible Leadership

Under Diane’s tenure as mayor, the City of Florence has prospered because of her ability to work with the City Council to bring fiscal restraint and responsible government to the city.  While holding the line on taxes, Diane has been able to increase funding for residential street repair and replacement; increased recreation opportunities and maintained first class police, fire/EMS and public services/maintenance.

Improving Our Quality of Life

In addition to increasing green space and public recreation facilities, Diane’s leadership helped to bring the Florence Freedom minor league baseball team to her city.  The city has first-class shopping centers and increased capacity of major roads and arteries so that people can enjoy less traffic and more time for shopping!

Hometown Values

familyDiane lives and breathes the spirit of Florence.  During the baseball season you will probably see her cheering on the Florence Freedom at Champion Window Field.  She often attends school ceremonies and never misses a chance to welcome a new company or business to the city.  Diane and her husband Wally, raised their two children in the city and are now the proud parents of two young adults and grandparents of one very handsome grandson.
